Kurzfassung
New developments in materials allow better adapting a workpiece to the later application. Components with functional graded properties produced by a thermo-mechanically coupled forming process represent such a new development. Heat treated steel with graded hardness requires an adapted process strategy for machining. Usually, the cutting tool material is selected with respect to the properties of the steel to be machined either hardened or conventional. But in this case the workpiece contains both properties. To avoid dimensional inaccuracies due to a tool change within the process, only one cutting tool material is to be used with special process parameter values. The goal is to find such values and to analyze the influence of the process to the component and the tool. Investigations on turning and drilling were carried out and their results are presented.
